Healthcare Bill and Medicare

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

The Senate Health Bill has been grabbing headlines for months as members of the Senate continue to debate spending, bill allotments, and the merits of improved or universal healthcare coverage. The latest version of this bill in late November and included a price tag of $849 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. $200 billion alone would be set aside to help cover doctors’ fees so that they would not suffer from a drastic cut back to reimbursement rates.

Much in keeping with the diversity of American opinion, this bill has come with more than its fair share of controversy, sparking heated debates on both sides of the political aisle.

Bill controversy

Democrats and Republicans are sharply divided over the merits and allocations included in this healthcare bill. The final vote on the bill shows this division; the voting results were nearly entirely along party lines. In the 243 to 183 win by the Democratic-controlled House, only 11 Democrats voted against the bill and only one Republican voted for the bill. That Republican is also an obstetrician – Rep. Michael Burgess of Texas. Republicans called the $200 billion allocation to cover doctors’ fees a political payoff and labeled it as the Democrats’ way of thanking physicians for their support of President Obama’s healthcare overhaul.

What’s included in the bill and how will it affect Americans?

The new healthcare bill, which will go into effect in 2010, is said to provide coverage to 94 percent of Americans. The bill is also estimated to cut the federal deficit by $127 billion during its first ten years. In its second decade, the bill is estimated to cut the federal deficit by as much as $650 billion. Over a 20-year period, it is believed that the bill would cut the federal deficit by $777.

However, in order to cut this deficit, the bill will reduce payments for Medicare plans and reduce spending in a variety of other areas. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that seniors on Medicare will have to pay $49 billion in higher healthcare premiums over the next 10 years, passing along much of the healthcare expenses to Medicare beneficiaries.

Additionally, because of reduced payments and services covered by the bill, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that Americans will see a $195 billion price increase in doctors’ fees for those doctors who treat Medicare patients. With only a percentage of those fees being covered by Medicare, patients themselves will have to make up the difference out of their pockets. TRICARE (the military healthcare program) beneficiaries would see an increase in fees by about $64 billion for non-military physicians who see patients enrolled in the TRICARE program.

How can Americans protect themselves from these price increases?

While it may be impossible to predict exactly how this bill will impact Americans and their pocketbooks until the bill is fully approved and implemented, Americans would be wise to begin looking for alternative healthcare solutions. Many Americans on Medicare may want to investigate alternatives to Original Medicare plans, including Medicare Advantage Plans.

Also, as healthcare prices increase, so will the prices of medications and other medical services. Therefore, many Medicare beneficiaries would benefit by enrolling in Medicare Supplement insurance plans to help cover the cost of price increases and of items that are not covered by Original Medicare plans.

Managing the healthcare system has proved to be a challenge and a politically derisive topic – especially over the past year. While changes are inevitable and are sure to impact every American, Americans can help to protect their health and their pocketbooks by focusing on maintaining or improving their health in controllable ways. Enrolling in affordable healthcare programs, such as a Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplemental insurance program, may also help to save Americans a significant amount of money at the doctor’s office.

Why is Pregnancy Miracle the Number One Infertility Book on The Internet?

I have researched and studied women’s healthcare issues for over twenty years and a large portion of my research has been in the area of infertility. During the last three months I have seen a tremendous amount of information on Lisa Olson’s book called “Pregnancy Miracles.” Since I have written an eBook on the subject myself I just had to check out what the method was all about.

Lisa Olson definitely has lived the talk, since she struggled with infertility herself well into her forties. Lisa is a health consultant, author and certified nutritionist with years of experience and research that she has placed into her natural method to solving infertility. Although I don’t agree with some of her conclusions that every case of infertility can be “cured” as she puts it, in a natural, holistic, ancient Chinese method. There are some extreme cases of infertility that just require strong prescription medication or surgery.

I do agree with many of her conclusions though and promote a natural solution as a strong first course of action. One thing that Lisa discusses is the pursuit of finding help with pregnancy adding to the stress already associated with becoming pregnant and therefore adding to the problem.

Pregnancy Miracle is extremely well written and packed full of valuable information in over 250 pages of intense reading. If you are looking for a quick fix, this may not be the best book for you, however if you want to become extremely knowledgeable about your situation I’m confident that “Pregnancy Miracle” would be a most valuable addition to your eBook library.

Lisa does an outstanding job of laying out a step-by-step approach to her program of what she personally used to cure her infertility. “Pregnancy Miracles” focuses solely on a completely natural approach free from prescription drugs, IVF and surgeries. This ancient Chinese, holisticmethod that she has adopted has been successful with thousands of women worldwide and it may be just what you are looking for to solve your infertility.

Lisa Olson is convinced that her program is for everyone, even women who are simply looking for a way to improve their overall wellbeing. She considers this natural approach to be rejuvenating and better than the majority of nutritional and alternative health books on the market today. I’m not sure that I would go that far. As I stated above, this book can be helpful and should be considered as a first course of action. However, there are going to be some of you who will not be able to conceive following this method. Nothing is 100% guaranteed when it comes to pregnancy.

If you are searching for answers and you are not ready to proceed with an infertility specialist you should read this eBook. The great part is that “Pregnancy Miracles” is 100% guaranteed by Lisa Olson. So you can read the book, give the natural approach a strong and realistic effort with no downside. If nothing else, you will be in excellent health when you seek other options available to you. You just can’t beat that for a great investment in your future. Best of luck and God Bless!

Are Alternative Health Remedies A Useful Tool Or Just Outdated Medicine?

The famous inventor Thomas Edison once said “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

Some view natural alternative health remedies as a temporary fascination that will fade into the sunset over time while others perceive alternative health treatments as the way of the future. But the idea that they may lead the way seems the more plausible of the two theories, with preventative medicine replacing that of reactionary medicine.

One of the great myths about alternative natural remedies has been there is no firm scientific evidence confirming the effectiveness of natural treatments. To dispel this all one has to do is pick up any credible natural health reference guide or naturopathic medicine manual. And despite the attempts of many major pharmaceutical companies continuing to marginalize the use of alternative natural remedies they continue to develop medicines based on the very natural treatment that they wish to discredit.

The idea behind the use of natural healing is something referred to as full spectrum approach. This concept is much different than that behind that of prescription medications. Let’s look at how the two theories would be almost diametrically opposed. For our example let’s use my neighbor John who smokes, doesn’t exercise, and has high cholesterol.

John is already on a number of medications and goes for his annual physical only to find that he has high cholesterol. His doctor tells him he really should quit smoking and then writes a prescription for a statin medication and tells John to come back in three weeks for a follow up. In the follow up tests show the statin has crashed Johns cholesterol too low leading to muscle aches and pain. The doctor makes the needed adjustment in dosage and suggests mild pain relievers if pain persists.

Now let’s look at the naturopathic approach. John hasn’t smoked in years due to the advice of his natural health specialist. He uses exercise as a moderate tool to help him relieve stress and boost immune system function. Upon testing high for cholesterol levels his doctor suggests eating fish a couple of times a week and reducing his intake of saturated fat to below 10 percent of total calories and suggests a fish oil supplement. He tells John that diet modification should bring his high cholesterol numbers down but tells him there are a number of natural remedies available if needed.

If you eat a high cholesterol high fat diet, don’t exercise, smoke, are overweight, and are constantly bombarded with stress chances are you will likely be very unhealthy. This will ultimately lead to numerous conditions and medicines being prescribed, as is the case with John. And quite honestly the use of alternative health remedies likely wouldn’t do much good anyway, since they are most effective as a part of an overall approach consisting of diet, exercise, and supplementation. In other words alternative natural remedies should be used in addition to a healthy lifestyle rather than a tool to continue to make unhealthy lifestyle choices.

The two examples above are the push and pull involved.

The question is does the use of prescription medication enable bad behavior or is an necessary tool in the fight against disease? The answer likely falls somewhere in the middle, leading us back to the debate about the usefulness of alternative natural remedies.
