There is More of a Demand for Organic Foods than you Might Think

The idea of eating healthier is one that many people really do like. After exploring the value of organic foods and the fact they can stay away from harmful toxins they are all for it. The fact that organic foods are dropping in price means that more people can afford to buy them. This isn’t just a passing trend though that people are taking an interest in. It is their way of eating better and taking a stand against the toxins in foods and their problems for the environment.

There is more of a demand for organic foods than you might think. It continues to spread all over the world. In fact, the United States is one of the areas with a great growth but it is nothing compared to that of Canada and Australia. In a recent survey though 70% of Americans said they occasionally buy organic foods.

More than $25 billion was made by the sell of organic foods in 2005 so you can image what that number is up to today. One of the reasons that many entities want to get involved is that amount of money. Many are also scared that their high sales through traditional growth methods is about to come to a halt. Consumers are showing they want more organic food products. Therefore they want to be able to offer them so they don’t lose the loyal customers they have come to rely upon.

With the increased demand for organic foods more farmers are trying to get their land ready for the growing of such products. However, it is a process that takes time to complete. You may not realize it but before the FDA will even do an inspection the land has to be free from the use of any chemicals for a period of at least five years.

For those farmers just now getting involved with this, they have that waiting period to go through. Then they have to get the certification from the FDA, plant their crops, and then have their first harvest. So this isn’t a process that you can rush by any means. The good news is that there are quite a few farms in the various stages of that five year term right now. That means each year more and more of them will qualify and earn their certification.

Due to the overwhelming demand for organic foods there has been some talk in congress about changing the requirements. They would be less than they are right now for farmers to become certified to create organic foods. Yet this is something that many are fighting against. They want these tough standards to be in place so that the division between organic foods and those traditionally grown can be clearly defined and not negotiated.

Consumers will find that the cost of organic foods continues to drop though as more farmers get involved. That type of competition to meet the demand means that buyers can find a variety of prices offered. With lower prices the cycle will continue because there are plenty of consumers interested in organic foods, they just can’t justify the cost right now.

It is going to be very exciting to see what the future holds in the way of organic foods for the world. This is definitely an idea that is here to stay and that continues to increase. You can be sure we will come up with faster methods to get the planting and harvesting done too. The benefits for our health as well as for our environment through organic farming is something we should all be eager to see move forward.

The Time Is Now To Switch To Natural Organic Foods

The food available in supermarkets is often packed with chemicals and in the conditions of a rapid health deterioration of the population, it’s no wonder that more and more consumers turn to natural organic foods. Although analyses between conventional and non-conventional foods are relevant, any consumer can use his/her common sense to decide whether the foods he/she buys are good for health. The dangers that lurk in non-organic foods are hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and fertilizers. The non-organic livestock grow in very harsh conditions, while the veggies in non-organic farms are synthetically boosted to appeal to the consumer’s eye. By contrast, natural organic foods are cultivated or grown according to the rules of Mother Nature, with very little human intervention.

Natural organic foods may also present traces of pesticide residues, but these are usually drifted from nearby farms that use chemicals for crop production. Furthermore, with natural organic foods there are a lot more nutrients and fewer threats for the health. Let’s take eggs for instance, analyses indicate that besides the lack of hormones and antibiotics, there is less saturated fat, less cholesterol, huge amounts of beta-carotene, superior levels of vitamin A, twice more Omega3 acids than in non-organic eggs. The difference is more than apparent, not to mention that the quality of the protein is significant too.

The word is spreading about the advantages of natural organic foods, and since direct access to organic retails is not available on all geographic locations, it is good to know that many of the products can be now ordered online from the closest source. If you want to buy natural organic foods, it is more likely to find them at the market than in hypermarkets. Moreover,  producers of natural organic foods are more likely to be found in the countryside; therefore take the best of any trip. Run a basic research and check for supplies.

The only disadvantage of natural organic foods is their price, products will often be 10% or 40% more expensive than non-organic foods. When it comes to vegetables and fruits, the products are very easy to recognize by their look: there will be no huge perfect apples or strawberries, but various fruit sizes, some flawed, others intact. Although it is more difficult to tell the difference for meat, go shopping in markets and supermarkets and you’ll find what you need!

Organic Gardening Guide – Three Factors To Consider

With the increasing popularity of organically grown fruits and vegetables, there is now also increased interest in ways to grow it. There are advantages and disadvantages in having an organic garden. However if three factors are borne in mind and followed as an organic garden guide, you will find that an organic garden is easy to grow.

Whilst, there are no laid down rules, it helps considerably if some basic attention is paid to soil, plants and plant protection. These three factors are the one which play a major role in having a good garden. The requirements of each garden may vary slightly, but these are only minor, if the principles are followed.

The roles that soil plays in a garden are many. Apart from being a support for the plant, it becomes one of the primary sources for supply of nutrients. The soil for organic farming must be free from chemicals. If the area has previously been used with chemical pesticides or fertilizers, than it may takes years for it to get back to normal level. You have your soil tested for this. Virgin soil is ideally suited for organic farming. The soil can be made richer by using organic compost or fertilizer. This will allow plants to grow better and healthier.

Any plant can be grown in an organic garden. Ensuring the use of good seeds, will allow for healthier and better plants. After germination under suitable conditions, seedlings can be transplanted. Flowering plants can be grown organically, but generally fruits and vegetables are the better ones to grow organically. The intention being to produce items for your food table that are free of any chemicals.

Plant protection is a very important aspect of gardening. Steps to protect your plants against weeds, insects and harmful diseases can be done by using pesticides. Today organic pesticides, such as neem extracts are as effective as chemical ones. Such products are commercially available and should be used as organic garden guide for pesticide control. It should be possible to find a suitable one from the nearest garden shop.
