Yes, you’re correct. It is a dairy product and dairy products can help form mucus among other things… it’s the nature of the beast. Unfortunately, some people are more sensitive to it than others (form more mucus and whatnot) and that is generally classified more with allergies, but unfortunately can’t be helped short of taking less/none.
I haven’t heard of it causing a headache, but that would definitely be an allergy issue and you should probably just stay away from it and go for a good Probiotic complex instead (which is the main part of Kefir that helps). Good luck and I hope I helped!

First thing, is your kefir pasteurized, store-bought kefir or raw, homemade kefir? If it is the latter, there is no need to stop drinking it (unless you are going vegan) quite yet. Properly made, raw kefir is rarely problematic. Any pasteurized dairy is toxic. A headache is not common with either one but that is how it might affect you. Try looking for other changes in your lifestyle around the time the headaches started. It might be another truly toxic food, household chemical, environmental, electromagnetic or emotional toxin. Hope this helps! Best of health to you!

it might be the effect on you
try drinking commercial kefir and see if it still affects you the same way

then try stopping for a week and see what changes.

experiment to make sure it is really the source of your problems.

Kefir from kefir grains rarely cause any problems.
