My friend makes a WONDERFUL healthy pita pizza! He uses sauce, veggies, low fat cheese, and turkey pepperoni. I think he used a whole grain pita as well. Then he baked them in the oven. They were delicious and VERY filling. Good luck!
Any kind of sandwich you want is good in a pita! How about grilled chicken, shredded, with cheese and tomatos?
You can toast the pita a little (not too much) to make it a little softer – do it just until it gets soft, not crunchy.
The cucumber and hummus stuff is middle eastern, which is good. But really, you can do all sorts of stuff. Greek food is good in a pita.
Enjoy!
I cut my pitas open and make grilled chicken sandwiches.
I usually just cut the chicken into strips, add some lettuce and a little honey mustard or ranch dressing. You could also do this with turkey breast lunch meat or whatever you want.
tuna salad made with soy based mayonnaise and shredded lettuce.
I prefer pita bread to the flat breads so many places are now using. Try falafuls. Or cut the pita in a half moon then slit open the middle to form a pocket. Stuff with apple rings and cheese, sprinkle with nutmeg and/or cinnamon. Heat in oven/broiler/microwave until cheese melts. You can also stuff pita with tuna salad (add black olives, chopped tomatoes, avocado, sliced hard boiled eggs). Or do a taco using pita instead of a tortilla. I like stuffing spaghetti with sauce in a pita (for breakfast). Shove an omelette in there. Shredded pork or chicken with barbecue sauce. Gyro.
This website provides us with healthy cooking and it is very easy to prepare. Most importantly, it does not compromise the taste and I can stop worry about my waist line.
Hope you find it useful.
