My dog won’t touch any canned food, or dry food and he’s probably tired of receiving burger patties…?

I have him on a dry food diet, but like I said, he doesn’t touch it. He’s not sick either because he’s running all the time and is very playful, too. Nevertheless, I’m very worried that he might get sick if he continues this trend with the food I give him. Do you think I should get healthy dog recipes and start cooking for him? I don’t mind cooking for him if I have to. I you can give me some good recipes I’d be very grateful to you. Thanks.
What about the brand ‘Natural Life’, BYB’s?

K so how about you STOP giving your dog human food. This is making the problem worse.
Your dog will not starve himself. Offer him the recommended amount of food(on the side of the food bag based on weight. Half at breakfast and half at dinner time). at his meal time. If he will not eat it, take it away and try again at the next meal time. When he is hungry enough, he WILL eat his dog food. DO NOT give in and give him human food. This will only show him that if he waits long enough, he will get what he wants.
Good luck and don’t give in!

Also, if you are feeding him a grocery store brand, I would switch to something a little higher in quality. Better food tastes better and is better for your dog..I recommend Orijen, Acana, Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Innova

I can’t emphasize enough just how much I agree with Holly. There is NO dog who ever starved himself if food was available.

Make sure you feed high quality food. Put the food out twice a day at mealtimes. Whatever isn’t eaten in 15 – 30 minutes is to be removed. Don’t give your dog treats, people food, or anything else to eat. Your dog will eat when it’s hungry.

You’re making the problem worse by caving in to him.

I’m sorry, but are you a vet? “Running all the time and very playful” doesn’t mean that he’s not sick. NOT AT ALL. My cat was dying of terminal invasive cancer and was still wonderfully playful and personable.

The dog needs to see a vet for this. Like tomorrow. If the vet doesn’t find anything wrong, then you start retraining him to dog food or to a raw diet or whatever you want.

If it’s a pickiness thing, then you let him refuse his food. Set it down for 30 minutes and if he doesn’t eat it, then you pick it up. You can do this for up to 3 days, as long as he’s drinking well. No people food, no ‘burger patties’, no treats, nothing but the food that’s there. And be sure it’s high quality food like Innova, Evo, Natural Balance, California Natural. . . No junk like Science diet, Purina, Pro Plan, Alpo, Iams, Eukamuba, etc.

There’s NO REASON that you need to cook for your dog, unless you want to. There are hundreds of dog cookbooks out there and thousands of websites that can be found via a google search.

Added: Natural Life is not something I would feed. Corn = Bad. Wheat = Bad. You want named meats, not “Poultry Fat”. Chicken Fat would be ok, but “Poultry” isn’t. Same goes for “Fish Meal”. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=badingredients can help you decode the dog food ingredients bag further.

Your poor dog…. Human food lacks the proper nutrition for dogs and you are shortening his life by feeding him people food. The salt content in people food will give him heart troubles in a few years too.
You need to place a bowl of dry dog food in his feeding area and leave it there. Your dog will reject the food for a day or longer but when he gets hungry enough he will eat it. Then, if you prefer, give him canned food according to the can. I know dog owners feel like they are showing their dog love and special treatment when giving them people food but they are killing their dog by doing so. Onions and grapes as well as other foods cause renal failure in dogs and it’s a cruel and painful death! IF his lack of eating worries you too much don’t give in and give him the patties. Instead, scramble up an egg or two, in a nonstick pan, without any grease or butter, seasoning or milk or cheese added and thoroughly mix it in with the dry food. Doing this will allow you to let the food sit for a day as opposed to a raw egg mixed in with the food.
I feed my 6 pugs pedigree food packs and dry dog food. It’s healthy for them and not as costly as other foods making huge profits and offering LESS nutritional value..

DO NOT GIVE HIM ANYMORE PATTIES. They are full of fat and oil and are very bad for him. Try different brands of dog food. Put carrotsand apples in his food too. You can take him to the vet if you think that there is a problem. There is also refridgerated dog food availible.
