different types of Teas, warm soup or foods, or a steamy bath, but not to hot cause it might cause her to get a fever. The steam will help her relieve some throat pain, also hard candies like lemon drops can be used as an alternative to cough drops. Um honey is good for the throat too, and gargling warm salt water can help as well…
Oregano works well.. use the leaves wash it and boil with water for about 10 minutes and let her drink it… You can also add sliced ginger…
Raam tulsi pata bete honey diye khayii ye dao, sere jabe.
Hey, if you have some cinnamon powder, then mix the cinnamon powder with some honey she will feel relieved and a whole lot better. Im sure of it.
May God help her.
I’m just guessing….warm syrup/honey, or try cough drops, i don’t see why you won’t allow her to take a cough drop. It’s not like you’re giving her codeine.
Try Oregano Tea or Thyme Tea
We need to know the cause of the cough. If it is a lung infection of any kind, hydrogen peroxide in a COOL mist humidifier, run near the bed at night, seems to be a great help.
Keep it simple. Simple always works best.
Hot tea (green tea is what I use, not sure if that matters) and honey. Will work wonders.
My Dad used to make me lick salt out of his hand when I was coughing as a child. I hated it but it did work. Eating something salty will help also. Chips or popcorn.
If you think about it, we cough b/c we have phlem in our throats.
Phlem is like the layer that surrounds slugs.
Gross, I know but we always poured salt on slugs to dry them up.
Many people suffer regularly from bronchitis, hay fever, asthma, sinusitis, and other respiratory illnesses. To combat the effects of these diseases, several may turn to natural cures such as inhalers, saunas, or vaporizers to clear their nasal passages and breathe easier.
Plants such as rosemary and neroli can be vaporized and provide safe and effective relief from stress and exhaustion. The essential oils of these plants are extracted from the grasses and flowers using a process called steam distillation. Rosemary essential oils are commonly used to treat nervous exhaustion and fatigue. Neroli has a light, floral aroma and is used to calm and soothe during stressful times. It has anti depressant properties and helps to restore sleep.
The essential oils of Petigrain and Jasmine can be used to treat those suffering from low confidence levels. Jasmine has a sweet, exotic floral smell and is effective in treating depression by soothing the nerves and producing a feeling of euphoria. It revitalizes the body and restores energy levels.
Vaporization provides the user the maximum benefit from the plant extracts, as the essential elements are released in a vapor form and inhaled directly into the lungs. The active ingredients enter the blood stream directly, and the effects are felt very quickly. The active plant ingredients are inhaled in their purest form, making them more effective than medicines or pills.
Herbal Therapy:
Most cough drops contain oils from herbs, including eucalyptus, peppermint, anise and fennel, says Varro E. Tyler, Ph.D professor of pharmacognosy at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
According to Dr. Tyler, these herbs stop coughing by increasing the production of saliva, which makes you swallow more frequently, suppressing the cough reflex.
He says you can get similar results by drinking a tea made from one of these herbs, which you can purchase in most health food stores.
Slippery elm is another anti-cough herb, says Dr. Tyler, but it stops the cough reflex by forming a protective and soothing layer around the irritated mucous membranes of your throat.
A few other anti-cough herbs are what herbalists call expectorants-that is, the herbs thin the cough-causing mucus, so you can expectorate (spit, to us non herbalists) it out any way you choose.
Horehound is probably the most effective and best tasting of these herbs, according to Dr. Tyler, and many people use horehound hard candies as cough lozenges.
You can find horehound tea bags in most health food stores.
