The ONLY one that works…. Umckaloabo !! (or, Pelargonium Sidoides)

    Google that! Or try http://www.pelargonium.co.za/

for more info. This will prevent colds, and alleviate them as well.

It also prevents the results of bad colds and acute bronchitis —
i.e. pneumonia. I swear my life on it.

I have a whole routine that includes a bit of both.
    My favorite blankie,
some soup, preferably home made but I can make due with canned,
sudefed and ibuprofen so I can sleep
    gallons of OJ
soft tissues with lotion in them(my personal favorite indulgence)
    gallons of ice water
    sleep
Lots of moisture in the air via humidifier or if I am really stuffed up, I do the kettle of hot water with my head held over it and a towel over my head to concentrate the steam.

I don’t care for any of the shotgun approach cold medicines as many times I only have 1 or 2 of the symptoms and don’t need half the stuff thats in the medicine. If all I have a stuffy nose, I don’t need the pain reliever or cough suppressant. If I have body aches, I don’t need the cough or stuffy nose medicines.

Herbs and herbal teas are natural antagonists against colds and frankly speaking, your best friends in cold. Natural cold remedies are considered the safest and most effective. A lot of these common herbs have excellent antiviral and antibacterial properties, are natural nasal decongestants, bring on sweat by inducing slight fever (fever indicates your body is fighting out against infections), relieve the headache associated with colds, have expectorant qualities and most importantly stimulate the immune system to stand up against the infection.

The use of these herbs is a time-tested and honored approach to strengthening the body and treating cold. These remedies can soothe common cold symptoms and speed up recovery! Herbs such as Echinacea purpurea, Inula helenium and Withania somnifera are commonly used for their antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties and their excellent ability to support the immune system.

These herbs work as a tonic for the immune system and are an extremely successful common cold remedy. Herbal and homeopathic ingredients such as Mentha piperita, Yarrow, Nux vom., Alium cepa, Influenzinum and Baccillum also work effectively to relieve common cold symptoms and help the body get back on the road to recovery.

I like hot lemon and honey – with or without some fresh ginger depending upon how I’m feeling. I do still take paracetamol though.

Vicks rubbed onto the chest, neck and back is also very good.

Cup OF HOT MILK WITH CLOVE OF GARLIC AND TSP OF HONEY! BUT IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF PHLEGM FORMING – AVOID DAIRY, AS DAIRY IS A PHLEGM PRODUCER. You can drink or gargle with tea from Golden Seal herb. I’ve heard is very powerful can even help with swine flu-NATURAL ANTIBIOTIC (should not be taken for longer than 7 days in a row). Chamomile tea is good too. And lots and lots of sleep.
    Hope this helps, good luck!
