Why Low-Fat, Low Calorie Diets are Stupid!

Are calories then not the issue What is the issue?
I can comment on both the low fat, low calorie diet, and the low carb diet from experience. First, of course, as I bought into the low calorie low fat thing, which is in line with what everyone “knows,” I tried that. I certainly lost weight, but I lost muscle as well as fat. I was weaker, and I was cold all the time. And I was HUNGRY all the time, as well. I hated that.
Then I tried the low carb diet. Fat melted off effortlessly, muscle stayed, I was never hungry, and I wasn’t cold. Bliss
Gary Taubes is what Galileo was to Copernicus. He has basically taken the discovery of scientists prior to him, who stated that insulin causes fat accumulation, and has made that ignored information known to the masses, and for his generosity, he is experiencing a backlash from those who uphold the prevailing orthodoxy of calories in vs. calories out. I guarantee you, that a generation from now, Taubes will be revered as a science revolutionary along with Atkins, Yudkin, and Lustig.
Good calories, bad calories is not a reliable source. the guy who wrote it is no picture of health himself
@clov56 agreed. I wanna take it even further though. don’t worry about macronutrients! just eat what makes you feel good and exersize and when losing weight just eat less. even if you ate snickers all day you’d still lose weight if you ate less. and people give me all this crap about insuline, but if you work out intensly, you will not become insuline resistant! it’s still about diet, cardio and lifting weights to firm up your body. and btw most weight lost on high protein and fat diet is water
all you need is 100g carbs 250g protein and veg 6 times a day every 2 to3 hours plus 2 t 4 letres of water SIPT through out the day and EXERSISE…..and 1 more thing THRO YOUR SCALES IN THE TRASH and go buy mesurements coz scales are the most soul destroying things on this planet
hey check out my channel 4 tips,nutrition,gameplay,and more and subscribe
I agree with a lot about what you said with the <1500 calorie diet not working however stating at the end that you can eat high fat/high protein/ low carb and have as many calories as you want is incorrect.
All weight loss/gain is based upon intake of calories, not upon macronutrients.
ok guys im gonna explain this once and once only every1 below me is wrong going about diets firstly you need to work out your marconutrient breakdown and you have to realise wat each macro is used for protein is used to build muscle nothing else can build muscle, carbs break down into glycogen and be used as fuel excess carbs are stored as fat, and fats are used as energy too and cannot be stored like carbs, hence y the body can survive on high fat and high protein diet
@josephbhunt
i am a health expert….and it’s more about carbohydrate intake than calories. carbs,protein and fat calories must be put into context depending on your needs.
if you want to lose weight – go low carb/high fat/moderate protein. if you want to gain muscle- go moderate carb/high fat/high protein etc. .. the research has been done myb friend. what we were taught in textbooks years ago was bad science.
Why is this even a debate?! Let me shut you all up real quick…To lose weight, you need to burn more calories then you eat. With that said, if you substitute your shitty eating habits with healthy foods, you can eat twice as much and it’ll equal the same amount of calories. If your fat, you 1) eat too much, 2) eat like shit and have no willpower, or 3) have a thyroid problem (rare). Any more then a 500/day deficit and you run risk of muscle burning, hence a lowered metabolism.
@AppleSouffle Laying on the sofa and watching the BBC is not research. And people are not fat because they don’t do research. They are fat because they lay on the sofa, watch the BBC and stuff themselves eat all day long. All of the basic things that your doctor would tell you about diet are true. Don’t overeat. Don’t eat for several hours before you go to bed. In fact, doctors have said the latest research has shown that being a little bit hungry (not starving) is most healthy.
That’s absolutely not true, Joseph. Not to pick on you, but you should do some research instead of spreading misinformation.
There’s a BBC study about low carb diets. The low carb group was allowed to eat as much as they wanted of protein and fat, and they LOST weight!
So what did you base your statement on? Nothing but ignorance.
And that’s why we have so many obese people. They’re not willing to do serious research.
FAT is very important. Try going on a low fat raw vegan diet for 2
days. the Mucus lubricating your lungs will fade and you’ll start coughing, trust me I know. Always make sure you get enough fat.
@ALucas73 .hi thanx for your response,so are you say that the fat will melt and not be solid in the veins?.I must admit,I have been out in the wild and meat was my only way of getting food/calories/fat.I was in a very cold place,no veggies there!.
@rockcityaudio Heat that fat up to blood temperature see what happens
@zobes i agree !!!
@josephbhunt i think if you eat the right food ,healthy calories you wont gain fat.
ive seen people only eating fruit and veggies and ate alot , and didnt gain any weight but actually lost weight!!! if your eating 3000 calories of french fries then you will gain.
So basically just eat, but be aware of quality and quantity. Thats what Im getting from this. T-Bone Stake? Cool! 2 T-Bone Stakes?
I’m not a health expert, but this video is a little misleading. Actually it is very misleading. There is no such thing as a good diet that allows unlimited calories. If you consume more calories than your body requires, then you gain weight. You may be able to eat a few more calories of carrots than candy bars, because they are metabolized differently. But the rule is clear: overeating of any kind of food will make you fat.
@DVblast05 you already have muscle from carrying that weight just lose the fat but eat red meats to keep muscle
the low libido thingy sounds about right. testosterone is kept in fats, so low fats will decrease sex drive.
so what about the fat from meat when it solidify s, that’s what is going to happen in your veins surely?
@ObesityMyth
*to answer your first question, people are wrongly informed about sugar… they aren’t feeding their children the right kinds of foods, and that’s why they’re fat. most fat children have fat parents… and alot of people are using formulas which have added sugar.
*the cheapest foods to buy are the junkiest foods to buy.. they’re loaded with sugar, and “calories” (calories don’t really matter at all if you’re eating the right foods) that’s your second answer..
