Instant-fit and Custom Made Hearing Aids

Our five senses give us the ability to enjoy the daily beauty that surrounds us. The value of hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting and feeling are often taken for granted until one or more of those important tools start to deteriorate in some way. The ability to hear, as well as to see make life experiences more rewarding and certainly more enjoyable. The partial loss of hearing dramatically changes how life is perceived and choices that were once made quickly, become an effort due to hearing loss. Hearing aids have been around for centuries in some form, but most people found them bulky, burdensome and annoying. People who decided to use expensive custom fitted hearing aids, found themselves waiting weeks for it to be ready and then it would have to be adjusted from time to time, in order for it to function properly. New technology in hearing aids has solved those problems by introducing instant-fit hearing aids.

Instant-fit hearing aids are usually in-the-ear hearing aids although they don’t have to be. They are manufactured using an automated assembly system and are built with standard housings and are covered with soft flexible ear tips that vary in size. Instead of customizing the hearing aid in the factory, the instant-fit hearing aid is customized in the hearing specialist’s office. Instant-fit hearing aids have been going through the development stage for the last ten years. The first step was to create digital programmable aids, which allowed the hearing specialist to adjust the electro acoustics in the office. The next step was using pre-made cores and soft sleeves which eliminated the need for the costly hard-plastic hearing aid shells. When those two steps were achieved, the hearing aid specialist could adjust and fit the hearing aid in the office and that eliminated the need for the manufacturer to get involved after the hearing aid was produced and sold.

Purchasing an instant-fit hearing aid is like buying off the rack clothing. Minor adjustments might have to be made after the purchase, but the cost advantage is greater than buying custom made clothing. The instant-fit technology in hearing aids is here to stay. Manufacturers are improving their quality and performance. Consumers are taking advantage of their lower retail price. Custom hearing aids will still be important in the hearing loss market, because not everyone has a normal size ear canal. If the ear canal is abnormally shaped or is very small, a custom hearing aid with a factory customized shell is the only option at this point.

If the ear canal is a normal size, the choice between a custom fit or instant-fit hearing aid comes down to where the consumer wants to spend the money. An instant-fit hearing aid’s digital signal processing devise can be put into a custom made hearing aid, but the cost is much higher. Some instant-fit hearing aids also have ear tips that are disposable. These ear tips have been designed to collect cerumen and as long as the consumer has the ability to change the ear tips, they are another option. The disposable ear tips may be less expensive in the short term, but for long term use a non-disposable instant-fit hearing aid is still the better choice. Instant-fit hearing aids will continue to improve and drop in price as the technology advances. With all the development taking place in hearing aids, the designer versions of instant-fits must be just a sound away.

The Best Natural Cures For Insomnia – Sleep Aids Are For Dummies

Tired of dealing with over the counter sleep aids? Interested in learning about the best natural cures for insomnia? Well, then you are in the right place. Below are 3 of the best natural cures for insomnia that can have you sleeping peacefully within the next few days.

1. Aromatherapy: People laugh at the idea of a scent or aroma being able to lull them to sleep. Well, the people who actually use this method are the ones who get the last laugh. Why? Because aromatherapy not only works, but it is one of the most effective natural cures for insomnia around.

Basically, aromatherapy involves candles, oils, and scents that you’ll make use of during “sleep” time. These scents are generally made up of natural insomnia herbs that are proven to have a sleep inducing effect: herbs like Valerian, Chamomile, Passionflower, and Lavender.

While some may choose to use a scented candle, others may use herbal oils that they have added to their warm bath. If neither of those options are preferred, some insomniacs may choose to add a few drops of herbal oil to a handkerchief and then slide it under their pillow at night.

2. Sound Therapy (Sleeptracks): Among natural cures for insomnia, sound therapy is one of the easiest and most convenient. All you have to do is put in the sleeptracks tape/cd and then try to go to sleep.

The sounds, rhythms, and subtle pulses from the track will sooth and relax you greatly, allowing you to fall asleep within minutes instead of hours. In all seriousness, it’s like the sound waves are massaging your brain ever so gently. Most insomniacs who utilize this natural cure for insomnia find that they fall fast asleep within just 5-10 minutes of putting the CD in.

3. Improved Sleeping Environment: You don’t think this is a natural remedy for insomnia? Well, you’re wrong. By improving the habitat in which you sleep, not only will you get to sleep faster, but you’ll stay asleep longer, guaranteed!

How can you improve you’re sleeping environment? Simple, by making a couple of quick changes.

If your bed doesn’t support your weight each time you go to bed at night, it’s time to chuck it and get one that does. If you like to have the TV on while you sleep, you have to break that habit and turn it off. If you like the temperature to be really warm while you sleep, you have to brave the cold and turn it way, way down.

Why do you have to implement these changes for better sleep? Take a look below to find out…

A bed that fully supports your weight allows for your body to rest comfortably rather than in awkward alignment. It’s better for the back, not to mention the spine.

A completely dark room helps your body produce melatonin, which aids you in sleep. Light sources will stop melatonin production, thereby making it harder for you to sleep well at night.

When sleeping in a warm room, most people toss and turn during the night. By getting the room temperature to about 65 degrees, you will be more comfortable and be able to sleep more peacefully. Besides, staying and keeping warm is what your blanket is for, right?

These are just 3 of the natural cures for insomnia that you can use to relieve your insomnia symptoms; there are plenty more out there. That aside, these three cures alone should be enough to convince you that sleep aids are purely for dummies!

HIV AIDS and Yeast

Candida can be deadly for those with immune system problems. The average person who suffers from a yeast infection will find it troublesome and a hassle to deal with; especially if they have recurring problems with candida. But the person suffering with an immune system deficiency such as HIV or AIDS or cancer patients that are undergoing chemotherapy will find it to be even more worrisome for their health and well being.

Candida and AIDS

There is a connection between candida and our immune system and a strong impact on the body when AIDS or HIV is factor. AIDS cripples the body’s immune system and candida takes full advantage of that scenario.

HIV and AIDS patients are suffering from a nearly defenseless immune system so it can be difficult to fend off candida. In a normally healthy person who has a lowered immune system due to a non-life threatening illness it can be harder to fight off a yeast infection but for someone who has a seriously impaired immune system candida can become deadly and it can:

- get into the bloodstream,
- interfere with functions of vital organs;
- and stop the body from absorbing necessary vitamins and nutrients.

Many who are dealing with immune system problems quickly learn that they need to take these yeast infections very seriously and work with doctors and natural health practitioners to actively keep their yeast levels under control through medication and through natural supplements and a candida diet.

Our bodies are accustomed to playing a bit of ping pong with bacteria. When people ingest antibiotics, albicans yeast take advantage of the fact that our positive flora cannot keep them away because normally our positive flora can keep them from overpopulating our bodies. It is common for a person who is taking penicillin to have problems with yeast infections and oral thrush.

When people are given chemotherapy, the same thing can happen and unfortunately, people with HIV / AIDS can find themselves in a very precarious position where yeast infections are concerned and for some, recurring yeast infections are their doctor’s first clue as to a problem with their immune system strength.

We can develop yeast overgrowth for many reasons including a poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, through sexual contact and because we’re prone to yeast overgrowth. But if you’re someone who has constant yeast infections and candida symptoms you need to look at whether or not there is another cause for this problem such as diabetes or HIV.

Many doctors will prescribe anti candida medications to be taken on a regular basis by those who have immune system problems and will suggest you avoid candida causing foods such as yeast and sugar. Foods off limits might be white bread, mushrooms, alcohol and sugar as well as fast food.

You might also consider taking a combined probiotic and prebiotic supplement called a synbiotic and taking antibacterial products and foods that are known to fight candida including: organic coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, raw garlic, probiotic yogurt, prebiotic cheese and kefir.

The good news for those who suffer from recurring yeast infections is that knowledge is increasing about ways to fight this off and do so naturally so that your body’s immune system can be strengthened which can increase your health and longevity.

What is kefir or keifer? I forget how it’s spelled but aids digestion for raw fed animals?

I was reading a book on raw feeding and read about kefir being good to give your dog. What is it? And where do you buy such a thing? Is it a powder? Or is it yogurt-like?
Razzle… woohoo thanks for that link!
