Despite clear opposition from the American people, Democratic leaders in Congress are continuing with their efforts to ram through a bloated, trillion-dollar health care bill that will hike taxes, raise premiums, and cut Medicare. Republicans are urging Democrats to start over and work with Republicans to develop bipartisan health care legislation that will actually lower health care costs.

President Continues to Ignore American People, Doubles-Down on Job-Killing Agenda

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) responds to the President’s State of the Union address: You know, yesterday I said that the President need to prove to the American people that hes listening. Unfortunately, the President doesnt appear to have listened to what the people in Massachusetts have said, what the people in New Jersey and Virginia had to say in the elections last year, and decided to just double-down on his job- killing agenda. If the Democrat leaders here in Congress and the President are serious about getting our economy going again and putting people back to work, we can in fact, work together to promote policies that will do that. But there was nothing last night that indicated that the President had any willingness to work together. Except one point: The President said when he was talking about health care and Ill quote, but if anyone from either party has a better approach that will bring down premiums, bring down the deficit, cover the uninsured, strengthen Medicare for seniors, and stop insurance company abuses, let me know. Thats when I put my hand up because thats exactly what the Republican health care proposal does. Much more so than the proposal that he and Democrat leaders are trying to shove down the throats of the American people. And so, were eager for the President to come to our retreat tomorrow. Were going to have an honest conversation about Americas priorities and trying to find ways to find some common ground.

A Few Habits That You Should Not Ignore To Stay Fit

There is no magic formula or pill which is needed to stay fit. The only pill that works is that of regular exercise. Now doing regular exercise is a thing of mental toughness and habit. Bad habits such as irregular discipline are easy to adopt whereas good habits are very tough to adopt.

The other magic wand that helps you to stay fit is that of eating healthy food. Healthy food again requires discipline. You can easily get lured by all sorts of junk food. Bad food will negate any impact your exercise is doing to you body.

It is habits only that make or mar the person. For stating fit and in good shape you need develop a few habits or even maintain the discipline for the habits that you already have.

Make it a habit to walk wherever possible. It is very easy to get the car keys and hop on to the car for each and every need. But if you seriously evaluate there will be cases where using you car is not a necessity. This habit is very hard to change since it involves life style change. If you start doing this on a frequent basis I am sure gradually you will fall in love with walking and that means that you would be able to enjoy the benefits of exercising while getting the work done.

The other habit you need to inculcate is that of drinking water. Drinking water helps a lot in washing off bad toxins and unwanted materials from the body. Water also helps keep you hydrated and it makes your skin look younger and fresh. The other benefit is that it helps you remain full and hence you will eat a lot less. Water definitely is a must add in your daily routine.

Having a goal makes it so much easier for getting into a discipline for exercise. If you do not have a goal then it would all the more harder to motivate yourself to achieve something. That is true for everything in life we do.

Last but not the least make sure that you keep the check on how you exercise. This is very important as wrong way of exercising can actually be bad on your body and for your health. So consult a trainer on a regular basis. He can guide you on the daily routine as well as can help you make goals.

More Fitness Myths to Ignore

Tired of hearing confusing and misleading advice from your friends or buddies in the gym? Get the facts by reading this article and discover the truth about these long-cherished fitness myths. This will help you weed out worthless advice so you can make the most out of your workouts.

‘Excessive sweating while exercising means you’re not fit.’

If you’re fit, the more you’ll sweat. Sweating is the body’s way of cooling itself. This mechanism improves as you exercise regularly.

“As you get in better shape, your body learns to cool itself more efficiently. Blood is shunted to the skin’s surface more quickly via tiny blood vessels that dilate and radiate heat away from the body. At the same time, the sweat glands increase their output of a fluid-and-sodium mixture, which cools the body as it evaporates. While fit people produce more sweat than sedentary folks, they lose less salt, because more of it is reabsorbed by the body’s cells as it travels from the sweat glands to the skin’s surface. The result: More copious and diluted sweat, and more rapid cooling,” said Royce Flippin in American Health magazine.

‘You should exercise everyday to stay healthy.’

If God Himself rested on the seventh day after creating the world, we mortals deserve a break too. You don’t have to exercise vigorously everyday to stay fit since even minimal physical activity like gardening or housecleaning can work wonders on your body.

In fact, experts say you can cut your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other ailments by 60 percent just by working out three times a week for 20 minutes. In between this, do what you want.

“Some beginners – in their zeal to make up for 20 years of neglecting their bodies – vow to exercise everyday for the next 20 years. This is not a good idea. If you’re trying to get fit, your workouts are only part of the equation; rest is just as important,” said Suzanne Schlosberg and Liza Neporent in “Fitness for Dummies.”

‘To build muscles, eat high-protein foods.’

This myth appears to have originated with the ancient Olympics. Early athletes thought they could acquire great strength by eating the raw meat of lions, tigers or animals with great fighting skills.

While meat is a good source of protein, loading up on it won’t make your muscles bulge since the latter actually contain 72 percent water and only 22 percent protein. Besides, most of us consume adequate amounts of protein from daily meals. Getting more from foods, powders or supplements won’t turn you into Arnold Schwarzenegger and may even damage your kidneys and liver.

“There is no scientific evidence supporting the popular belief that athletes require massive amounts of protein-rich foods or protein supplements. Surveys show that athletes often consume four to five times their actual requirements. Yet there is absolutely no health or performance benefit from high-protein eating,” according to Dr. Ellington Darden in “The Health Robbers.”

To build more muscles, you have to lift weights or perform some kind of weight-bearing activity religiously. In short, you have to work out instead of relying on the promises of protein drinks and pills.
