I don’t quite understand how the health care bill will reduce the deficit in 10 years?

As a center-left independent, I’m curious about the proposed health care bill. There have been multiple reports that the bill will reduce the deficit in 10 years or something. However, won’t passing the bill provide MORE mandatory budget outlays, rather than less? In other words, if the government commits to paying something until some indefinite time in the future, how could that result in the government paying less overall after 10 years or something?

Surely I’m misunderstanding something here. Could a Democrat or a liberal help me out?

Senate health reform bill would increase costs, reduce quality

Senate Democrats have managed a compromise on a health care bill that is a fraud on the American public, which is increasingly leery about a government-run health care option.

Instead of a government health service to provide coverage to individuals not covered by company plans, the Senate bill authorizes the federal Office of Personnel Management to contract with a nonprofit insurer to provide an alternative to private health care plans. (The post office is such a nonprofit – it walks, talks and doles out mediocre service just like the motor vehicle office and Veterans’ Affairs Department.)

This public-private plan would have a disproportionate share of participants with expensive pre-existing conditions and chronic problems. Although it would have slightly lower administrative costs than the likes of Aetna or Humana, this adverse selection of clients would compel it to provide inferior service and curtailed benefits – unless the federal government empowered this nonprofit to force doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical device companies to accept significantly lower reimbursements than they do from most private insurers. Inferior patient care is the more likely outcome.

Just as with the House bill, private companies will find it cheaper to drop coverage and pay a tax, thus pushing their employees into this public-private option.

Ordinary Americans are correct to fear that they will lose their private insurance. Once a few competitors (or even just one large one) in an industry opt to drop their private insurance in favor of paying a tax and pushing employees into the public-private option, other firms must follow or face competitive cost disadvantages.

By adding another 31 million people to the health insurance rolls, the Senate and House bills will add another $1,000 to $2,000 to the cost of a private family health care plan. Americans fortunate enough to hold onto to their private plans may not be taxed directly, but they will face a combination of higher co-pays, bigger payroll deductions for health care and lower wages to permit employers to absorb higher costs.

Health care will be more expensive and good health care less accessible for many taxpaying middle-class workers.

As for out-of-control health care costs, the Senate and House bills “bend the cost curve” all right – in the wrong direction. By increasing entitlements without truly taking on the special interests – tort lawyers, pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies – these bills would raise the cost of health care.

Americans already pay at least 50 percent more for health care than the French and Germans and perhaps double what the British pay. By pushing health care from 18 percent of gross domestic product to 20 percent, these “reforms” will make the typical middle-class family poorer and the U.S. economy less competitive. More jobs will be lost.

That is not health care reform Americans should accept – and the polls indicate they don’t.

Sadly, Senate and House Democrats believe they know better than most Americans what is good for them. These elitists don’t know much about effectively managing health care or the economy, and we are all losers for that.

2. Walk, walk, walk. If finding time for a structured exercise program is just too much of a challenge right now, just start by walking. I have known many people who have strengthened their heart and reversed severe conditions by getting outside and walking. If you can, find a scenic route. There’s nothing more calming than the outdoors. (I highly recommend whistling and singing while you walk. It makes for happy thoughts.)

3. Calm down. By this I mean, don’t stress about the stuff you don’t have to. This is actually a very funny statement coming from me who used to stress about everything! Deadlines, laundry, work, family… you name it, I stressed about. Not until I realized that this would kill me no matter how healthy my food was did I drop the stress and pick up the laughter. Right now as I write this newsletter, I’ve got more things that need to get done today than are humanly possible. My reaction “Haha..better put my Superwoman shirt on”

4. Do not and I repeat, do not go on a low-fat diet. Your heart condition may get worse in your attempts. Drop the bad fats (like hydrogenated oil and the nasty oil in French fries and donuts) and start eating more healthy fats like coconut oil, olive oil, salmon, walnuts and whole organic eggs.

Lower and Reduce Cholesterol Levels Naturally

Cholesterol is an essential substance that our bodies produce. Cholesterol is a waxy, soft material that is found around the lipids of our bloodstream and in our cells. Good cholesterol is important for our cell membrane formation, our hormones and other functions. However, when our cholesterol level gets too high because of the foods that compose our diets, it results in a condition called hypercholesteroemia. Cholesterol either LDL or HDL. LDL, i.e. low-density lipoprotein is the harmful cholesterol. HDL, i.e. high-density lipoprotein is the beneficial cholesterol. Our health is improved when we reduce our LDL level and increase our HDL level. An elevated LDL cholesterol level can result in heart disease which kills a third of us and takes 10-15 years off our average life-span. High blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides can lead to arteriosclerosis, i.e. hardening of the arteries that results in less blood flow and so less oxygen for our cells and tissues. If arteriosclerosis develops near our heart, it puts us at risk for a heart attack. If arteriosclerosis develops near our head and neck, we are at risk for a stroke. Arteriosclerosis leads to high blood pressure because the walls of our arteries are lined with cholesterol making the passage for our blood flow smaller and even blocked which requires our heart to pump blood with more force in order for our blood to circulate.

A variety of synthetic, prescription drugs called “statins” are used extensively in our culture. Statins block an enzyme that our liver needs for the production of cholesterol. Statins do reduce LDL levels, but do not raise HDL levels which we need for our cells and tissues. The side effects of statins potentially include liver damage, fatigue, nausea and disruption of healthy digestion signaled by abdominal pains and craps, gas and constipation. We can avoid the potential harmful side effects of statins by turning to substances that occur naturally to reduce LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol. Not only are these substances natural and without the risk of harmful side effects, but they also carry many other health benefits beyond those of reducing cholesterol.

Chromium is a trace mineral that promotes healthy blood sugar levels and therefore the risk of insulin resistence that leads to high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Vitamin E may prevent the formation of fatty deposits on the inside of our arteries. Many medical journals contain articles praising the benefit of vitamin E for a healthy heart. It has been recommended that we get at least 400 IU of vitamin E each day.

Other natural substances that we can obtain in supplement form to lower and reduce cholesterol levels include, alfalfa, aloe vera juice, devils claw, fenugreek, ginger, grape seed extract, green tea, licorice, milk thistle, soy and evening primrose. We need not risk the potential harmful side effects of synthetic, prescription drugs, such as statins, in order to lower and reduce high cholesterol levels. All these natural nutritional materials give us many other health benefits as well as reduce cholesterol levels. We can also obtain heart healthy, cholesterol lowering and reducing formulas containing combinations of many of these natural substances in synergistic proportion.
